Edinburgh furniture maker Jonathan Lassen designs and makes unique pieces of furniture and contemporary fittings to commission.

Jonathan spent a number of years working on restoration projects in Languedoc and Pennsylvania before setting up in business as a joiner in 1981, undertaking period restoration and contemporary installations in and around the New Town of Edinburgh.

Soon Jonathan was making inlaid bookcases, bespoke libraries and individual cabinets to compliment the neo-classical proportions of the Georgian and Victorian architecture of Edinburgh. This evolved into making contemporary furniture of his own design, mostly for private but with a few commercial clients.
Jonathan takes his inspiration from the influences of scottish & american Arts & Crafts, japanese joinery and contemporary design and weaves them together with ideas that spring from the patterns and shapes that occur during the making process.

“I enjoy the collaborative process of designing to commission. The opportunity to interpret and manifest a clients ideas, or create a special piece for a specific location and need. “.
“ A special piece of furniture will have many lives beyond its first use.”

Made with natural materials, fine timbers and traditional techniques. Each piece is individually designed in collaboration with the client, after a full consultation and, whenever possible, a visit to the setting where the furniture is envisaged.

“Each commissioned piece is fundamentally inspired by my client’s dreams and shaped by their requirements”
